8 gauge is just a bit bigger than pencil size this is the best pic i have so far:
but you can see my eyebrow and labret too!

*girlish giggle* Why helloooOooo Mr. Dis.
*turns on hazard lights* (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=1725004&postcount=62) :p

Oooohhh.. 8 seems like a big number!! :) Is it mm circumference or just.. numbers someone decided on?

Ah, a labret.. I learned that word freshman year.. then the girl with the labret piercing squirted grape juice at me through the hole.
OMG freaky, but she' first chair at Oberlin now, so I guess she can labret-squirt anyone she wants now, 'cause she's principal bass at OBERLIN her freaking junior year. (just... DAMN! I mean.. DAYMN!)

Dude, those look so cool! I wish I could have one and not look like a stupid goob. :(

"Unsurprisingly, the machine was found to be significantly faster than the previous generation."

Yeah, because it's comparing the new i5 with the old i3. And even when it's compared with last years i5, that processor was 2.8ghz and the new one is 3.1ghz.

I am actually a relatively new entrant to the editing/movie making gig. I started making corporate videos using iMovie, which I had been using since V1.

The irony here is that I switched (dragged kicking and screaming) to FCP a few years ago because, amongst other things, I couldn't get my head around the "new" iMovie.

Now I am considering downloading iMovie '11 just to familiarise myself with the next FCP

Weird. At my high school we're encouraged to bring our own laptop to school to use instead of the school ones if we want. Not that I'm bringing my MBP to school

Expect software announcements at an Apple special event on 30 January (the consumer release date for Vista, as if you didn't know already). There Steve will talk about Leopard's Top Secret features and the new iLife suite, just so that once MS have stopped kicking themselves after the release of the iPhone and the bruises are starting to heal, they can do it all over again. See Zunes and Vista in bargain bins all over the world (I know that Zunes are only on sale in the US at present, but in order to get rid of stock they will be put on sale everywhere without any software support whatsoever).

However, when money is on the line I would never choose a Mac in our business. They simply dont have a competitive advantage and are not able to offer any software that would make our business more efficient. Now I could argue that software developers can be blamed for not offering Mac versions of critical applications, but I really dont care.

What do Mac users do when the Windows Virus of the Month strikes the office?

    They keep working...

You are right. However, Apple continued to use the G4 in lots of products while still selling other G5 based products.

    B

Most likely only because they had too...could you imagine a G5 in a mini or a powerbook?

As much as I'd like a new macbook or iMac with a 750gb hard disk, I think I'm going to stick with what I've got until 802.11n and HD/Blueray burners are standardised on the mac.

I'd personally like to see a smaller macbook revision, for ultra traveling, possibly with extra securty for the traveler....

Well, I hope you enjoy that computer when it comes out sometime (if ever) in 2008.

3:00 at the marked horseshoe lounge sounds great to me. I think I can make that any day next week. Like vniow, it would help if people knew what day(s) they'll likely participate in this.

I like the idea of keeping a standing 3:00 meeting every day of the expo, since we'll all have different schedules. Some of us may show up on several days, just to see who else is there.

But if we want to set one BIG meeting that everybody should plan to attend, I suggest Wednesday, Jan. 10th, 3:00 at the horseshoe. By then, some of the craziness of the first day will have died down, and we'll all have had a chance to see the new stuff on display in the Apple booth, and around the exhibition halls.

    Sound like a plan?

This technology would be well utilized on a standard mac keyboard too.

I would love to see this, as it could make FCP editing a breeze with specialty shortcuts, scroll wheels, and volume bars.

Sure it can, as long as you don't make or receive any calls, play games, stream music, or surf the web.
Exactly, my mother's 3G easily lasts a week. But then she gets a call on it about twice a month and that is about all the activity the phone gets.

The cache is still there. It just deletes it if you turn location services off.
But the cache is supposedly encrypted, lasts only seven days and won't sync to your computer. And since no apps can automatically run in the background (you can start a navigation app and it will keep running in the background but after every iPhone restart, you will have to restart the app, I am also not sure whether this navigation app will be allowed to stay in the background forever), there is no way to fully automatically collect and store these data but if you are willing to start an app recording your location after every iPhone restart and possibly also at least once per week, somebody could write an app for this (and lot of 'navigation' apps already allow you to record your itinerary, it is just a question of finding one that records it in a manner you find useful).

Um, so my girlfriend and I have both have the iPhone 3G. We have the same tracking issue by virtue of being on iOS 4.x - but at the current highest OS level for this model, 4.2.1, we don't get a "fix?"
I think the best would be to forward that question to your senator (or other government authority) for them to include in their probe into this issue. Assuming, eg, the senate hearing is still going ahead.

This was my thought too, but it seems more likely that there will be another event before the end of the month (end of the week? next week?) introducing iWork and iLife 08. I can't figure out how or why they would make them both Leopard-only.
They don't need to be Leopard-only to be delayed until closer to Leopard's launch. The new products will undoubtedly take full advantage of new features in Leopard (but fall back gracefully for Tiger users--I'd imagine Panther people will be left in the dust, though). The products can't be demoed or released until more of Leopard's many loose ends come together; without a "wow" factor for new Leopard-based features, it's just an incremental update not worthy of keynote time.
