Xserve lags so far behind the Mac Pro in release, costs much more, has little to make it better and just as much to make it worse. I would love to have an Xserve, but I don't understand why anyone would buy one.
I believe, for a server, it offers much more. I think it has redundant power supplies, lights-out operation and includes Mac OS X server. Since you obviously don't need those things (since you see no value in them) I don't know why you would want one.

So what? They do it so we should do it?
That's 5 year old logic.
Could someone Please point out where in any of my posts I said we should do the same thing? I was simply pointing out that another poster who seemed to think that this kind of behavior didn't exsist in other countries wAs wrong.

If you need to hear my opinion on the Jewish/ Israeli Lobby; Yes, I completely agree that it is a powerful force. However, that's not focus of the story.
Do you think that the US media are hypersensitive when it comes to criticising the pro-Israeli lobby?
There can also be no question that one who reports the news needs to remain relatively objective. I could give a damn what she says in private but when one starts expressing their opinion in a profession such a journalism, you lose all credibility to report a story without undue bias.
Well, she did express it more or less in a private capacity.
Perhaps the essence of her admittedly clumsy criticism of Jewish political influence was an attempt at a level of objectivity that is lacking in the media. Whenever a person dares criticise the pro-Israel lobby, that person is pummeled by a crowd of jerking knees and cries of anti-Semitism. I'm not excusing Thomas at all, I think she went too far in her language, but I think she has a point.
I have no problem with her expressing her opinion/ point of view but with her (former) standing, she could probably wrangle a ton of op-ed space/ television interviews to voice her concerns in a tactful manner.
...unless the media are not interested in talking about that side of the story. Come to think about it, we don't hear much about it in the media, do we?....

Glad to read I'm not the only one drawn to the 11" MBA. Still I can't make a final decision.
I can afford both for my business but I'm trying to use less computers not more. That's why I originally chose the 13", so it could be my one 'main machine'.
As sensible as that is I still want the 11" for a main machine. The ease of carrying it everywhere, fun to use aspect just might outweigh the practicality of the larger screen, added power, SD card slot.
I'm still undecided.

Yawn.
Wake me up when it supports Exchange 2003 just like all of their Windows versions.
Que the one MS fanboy who will say it's old tech and Microsoft will never support it.
Guess the team that works on Office 2010 for the PC never got that memo since that works like a dream with Exchange 2003.
Or, you could be like the Office for Mac team and happily keep your head in the sand.

Why can my Apple iPhone 4.3.1 work perfectly with our company Exchange 2003 server - but my Microsoft Outlook 2011 can't?
Microsoft pisses me of sometimes.
I buy Office 2011 for my Mac and it doesn't work with my company exchange server. Microsoft says upgrade the exchange server. My company says buy a PC, Outlook 2010 on the PC works just fine with their Exchange server.
So if MS is supposedly ditching whatever they use for OutlookPC->Exchange2003 connectivity then fine. Why can't MS do what the iPhone and iPad do to talk to Exchange2003?
What can I use on my Mac to hook up to Exchange 2003 so that I don't have to use a PC?

In Stockholm and Frankfurt, I hardly see any iPhones. Also, I hardly see any iPads. I do however see a ton of MacBookPros but almost no MacBookAirs.
I find both places very style-centric (Stockholm especially), but also somewhat frugal. I don't think that iPhone will reach as large of a market share in Europe due to the high upfront cost of an iPhone (659/799 for 16GB/32GB).
Actually, it's running joke that you can identify an American by iPhone/iPad (aside from the loud inane conversation).

The best PowerMac G5 in my opinion is either the duel core 2.3 or Quad.. if you wanna take your chances with the LCS, I would consider the PM G5 Quad. I had one of those and used it to get the Mac Pro.. now I have the following Macs and for 70 percent of my usage, I use my PB G4 more than my mac pro..
1. PowerBook G4 1.67 Hi-Res w/PATA SSD 128GB(was only 150) + 2GB DDR2
2. Pismo w/G4 550 upgrade - the most beloved of all Apple laptops and highly sought after - takes care of my OS 9 and earlier OS nostalgia, such as public beta, 10.0, 10.1, etc.. OS'es I never experienced when they came out.
3. Mac Pro 2010 6-core - takes care of my heavy duty dvd ripping, and handbrake encoding.. I don't do video editing as I have no interest in it.
FINALLY... 4. My Gateway P-6860fx - responsible for my windows only stuff.. While I can install windows 7 on my mac pro, I refuse to do so simply because my Gateway can do it all.. and has a total of 8GB memory.
There you have it...I use both Intel and PPC.. Don't knock PPC, its still a good machine for BASICS, and yes with the right codecs and HTML5, its now possible to view up to 720p on the G4 1.67 and even G5. 1080p is not possible though..
To the OP: Get the dual core 2.3 if you fear the liquid cooling system would leak... if not, jump at the G5 Quad and get 2 processors with 2 cores each - total 4 processors.

You know, all I personally want is to see Apple fitting a Merom inside a MacBook (non-pro, yes)... I mean, why shouldn't they do that?
Sure, back in the PowerPC days, the differentiation made by Apple between their consumer and professional lines was based both on features AND processors... In a way, it made some sense, as the supply of PowerPC chips was sometimes constrained... Since the G3, G4 and G5 families were alternately produced by IBM and Moto-Freescale, that was less of a problem, as the consumer line would never cannibalize supply for the professional line and vice-versa. I know I'm speculating here, but it sure makes some sense. And, of course, they avoided not only cannibalization on the component supply front, but also on the sales front...
Anyway... This worked fine back when Apple was, platform-wise, isolated from the rest of the other computer manufacturers. Now they can't afford to lose customers to other brands (and as much as OS X is an attractive proposition, most potential switchers won't take the plunge if they feel they are REALLY being ripped-off), and let's face it: if the Core 2 Duo processors will, as it appears, cost the same as their Core Duo counterparts did when they were launched, why shouldn't Apple slap them across the board? They could always deplete their stock of Core Duo processors on their Mac mini line, while lowering them to their original $499 and $599 pricetags...
Just my €0,02... It's true, I'll have to get my hands on a MacBook until the end of September, so this is mostly wishful thinking :o . Anyway, am I too off-base? (I'm guessing not...).

uh, yeah... cuz who cares about the other 68 million people in the USA? If you're not a Christian, too bad, right?! All ads should be aimed solely at Christians that celebrate Christmas, not some other crazy made-up holiday celebrating some silly fictional fairy tale!
To be fair, Christmas, as such, has really become something of a secular holiday in the US, and I've known plenty of non-Christians who celebrate Christmas. So, calling it Christmas does not really limit it to Christians...

Maybe, I'm not really sure. To me though, it seems like if the software has to scan you to figure out what part is an arm and a what is a leg, etc, then 2 people might be the max. But again, I really have no clue.
I found this...regarding the kinect sensor.
All sensory information (depth image, color image and audio) is transferred to the host via a USB2.0 interface, with complete timing alignment.
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/project-natal-xbox-360-primesense-motion-control,news-6326.html
So if this is the case, that would mean that processing the scene is up to the either the game developer...or XBox patch software. If the developer has direct access to the feed (as opposed to having to use whatever the XBox software provides) then they can potentially use as many people/objects as they want...given hardware limitations.
Maybe the patch software will initially give devs 2 skeletons so they can work with this to speed up making the first games. But over time, either Xbox engineers can make it more versatile, or devs will figure out different ways to use the sensor.
This is pretty interesting. If the feed spec / algorithms are available or can be reverese engineered, you may see some interesting applications of the Kinect sensor crop up arround the internet like the Wii sensors. Although admittedly, the Kinect, as a vision system, is not as simplistic as the Wii Mote, many hardcore hackers might be able to come up with all sorts of gadget projects.

"Open" is useless and rather laughable when a closed, controlled platform continues to set the bar year after year.
And yet the Android is surging year after year, leaving the iPhone stagnant at 23%.
Also, if you go by the history of humanity, a closed model is doomed to fail no matter what the current status is. Humans, by nature, can't remain closed for a long time.

All true, but this is just vested self-interest. All countries are in it for themselves.
Besides, the U.S. loves having an Israel in the Middle East.
Keeps the oil barons on their toes.
The oil barons don't need to be kept on their toes, most of them are already bought and paid for by the US. Those monarchs and dictators you see ruling countries like Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are all bought and paid for.

You don't need location services (tracking) turned on to use GPS functions. ;)
Somehow I knew someone would say that. I nearly edited my post when I realized it was incomplete, but I guess I'll put it here:
You need location services for many, many "cool" features of any smartphone. Finding restaurants, gas stations, etc. through countless apps. Not to mention all the social networking crap the kids are doing these days.
Not to mention finding yourself on the map.

I more mean that you can pick and chose with Move. For example, I already have a PlayStation Eye from years ago (and so do a fair few people), so if I were to invest in Move I'd simply need a controller to do the basics, and a navigator if I want to pimp it.
The system scales, based on what you already have, and what you want to have. Whereas Kinect is 129, no matter what you own (Move for me would cost less than 70). I do agree however that Move is damn expensive if you need all the components and want 2 players...but then is there really any game worth that outlay right now? I do see Move as having the advantage of buttons though.
I've had a go on Move, and although the controllers were obviously plastic, they felt no more so than every other game controller (DualShock, Wii Remote, 360 controller) under the sun. Kinect's technology is pretty impressive, I will totally admit.
As we both agree, it does simply come down to the games. Killzone 3 may be the make or break of Move, as from what I've seen it'll be the first AAA title from Sony with Move support. Not sure what Microsoft's answer to that will be?
[EDIT: http://kotaku.com/5688040/report-kinect-only-cost-56-to-make
Seriously, $56 to make, selling at $149? Microsoft should have cut it to $99, still made a huge profit, and actually avoided the massive criticism of price. Totally insane]
I agree I mean look at the Move you can get everything you need for $99 and the same price and extra controller. Its just MS typical Nickle and dime scheme.
