Well. I have to say Bravo! VMWare!!!!
It use SOOOOOOO little amount of memory compare to Parallels (4xxMB vs 2.xxGB), so there is better system performance. I cannot wait to test it on my Macbook but the different on my Mac Pro was HUGE!!

No, now that we are bold about our "success" it's time to take out the terrorist in Iran.

How has Apple NOT innovated on the Mac line up?

    - Completely redesigned and absolutely beautiful architecture on the insides of the Mac Pro
    - MagSafe
    - 24" all in one machine
    - Front Row/apple Remote/iSight in every "portable" Mac
    - Two finger right clicking on trackpad

All of this in the year of a move to a new platform.

The REAL innovations though, will occur in the second generation of Intel products. THe most important thing was to make a swift but calm switchover to ensure nobody got nervous over the move. Now we are here, 2007 will be sick.

I thought that the inverse scrolling was a bug, but in Lion Dev Preview 2 it is still there

It's done on purpose because we've been used to backwards scrolling all these years. Why should a mouse's scroll wheel control the scroll bar, and not the page you want to scroll? When you think about it, it's kind of silly to add that extra layer of abstraction when you don't need it.

Now it's been corrected - it takes almost no time to get used to it. Embrace it, and you'll be ok.

But it seems on par or better than the 9400m, which people use just fine every day in the 2008/2009 MBA/MB/MBP's.

Honest question: Why are there so many comparisons to a GPU (9400M) the Air no longer has? The Intel IGP is still worse than the 320M, which to me is the only relevant point if all we are comparing is the GPU.

Removing options is removing options. At this point it would've made sense to release the new MBA with SB a few months later, than doing what seems like a downgrade on the graphics side. Easy for me to say of course. I don't have a finished design in my shed, ready for release and the choice is to either make money (release with C2D) and possibly losing some (no release, wait for SB).

Luckily, the MBA, especially, doesn't depend on its GPU alone.

The laws of physics seem to dictate that since it draws up to 10W less power and would (presumably) have the same battery, a SB MBA would have more battery life than a C2D MBA.

It seems that the only way Apple could rationalize bumping to SB is by bringing something new, meaningful, to the table. An hour extra battery life, perhaps. Or new hardware, such as a built in wireless modem (pretty please, make that fit in the 11"). I guess it all depends on how long they can use the C2D versus what they can offer "in return" for going SB.

On the other hand most buyers won't care/notice anyway, which Apple is probably more than aware of. :(

Yes, the iPhone does compete against Android. The last time I went into a AT&T or Verizon store, this was obvious. To say that the iPhone does not compete against Android is silly.

Silly how? iPhone is a hardware and Android is an OS. This is apple v.s. meat. It's not even fruit v.s. fruit

.... Again, the article was about the iPhone vs. Andriod handset sales, not the tablet sales. Another Straw Man approach to a comment about iPhone handset sales.

    ...

When your sales numbers for phones are ~50% of that of your competitor; whereas a few years ago they were barely a blip, then yes that means they are getting kicked in the teeth in handset OS sales.

Since you are talking about "sale". Can you list any Androids device that outsell the iPhone?
---->>>>>>> Buy one get one free --> only 1 device make money, the second is free. So, for 100 Androids devices got on the customers' hand, only 50 of them are "sold".

    My thoughts exactly.

I wouldn't care if their share is 1%. Just as long as they remain a sound business and keep up the R&D.Marketshare matters.

Why? The biggest and the most obvious reason is that developing for and porting software to OS X becomes more attractive to developers. Greater market share also helps Apple in its dealings with major partners like Intel and Microsoft.

The other big benefit for consumers is that we may see more product offerings from Apple as the number of macs sold increases. How about that Mac media center everyone's been talking about? Or the fabled Mac tablet?

I actually hope it's moderately successful. Hopefully then, Apple will see fit to reduce their pricing schema on the iPods.

Realistically, it could go either way. Despite the debacle that is Windows, Microsoft has had a great deal of success with the XBox. I wouldn't be surprised if Zune isn't as bad as most members of MacRumors will make it out to be.

    ~Joe

Really depends on yoru defintion of success. Popularity wise it's been successful (360 is helped solely by the fact it's the only HD player out there right now) but as far as the stock holders and business men are concerned it's been a debacle - they've lost hundreds of millions of dollars in the XBox and have still yet to see a single positve quarter, financially speaking, since it's inception.

While early looks at Leopard have provided focus on the major features announced by Apple, the following minor features may prove to be interesting to day-to-day Mac users. Reports of the Leopard Developer's preview is that it is remarkably solid, and the user interface is more responsive ("snappier") than Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4).

Reports indicate that the Finder and Front Row are exactly the same as the Tiger versions, suggesting that unannounced improvements could be in store for them by Leopard's final release.

It annoys me too but it works out pretty well for Apple and I'd much rather pay extra for the i7 than not have the option at all. Look at the latest MBPs compared to the previous ones, Apple bumped the GPUs up significantly but charged $200 more and yet everyone is happy.

True, but I've always had the sense that MBP owners are just used to paying a lot more for a machine than most everyone else.

I strongly suggest against a refurbished model of older revisions. It is similar to purchasing a Core 2 model. The base 21.5" Sandy Bridge once it hits refurb would be tempting at ~$999.

Agreed about the Core2 models, but I still think it would depend on the price of the refurbed. There's a 3.33GHz core 2 duo on there for $1040, and a 3.06GHz Core i3 for $930; same GPU different HDD size. The i3 would be the better choice if one weren't able to get the extra $200 or so for a new model.

This is the first worthwhile iMac solely based on the stillborn potential of Thunderbolt and the quad on the base models. It only took 5 years.

QFT. My initial post in this thread mentioned the Old Skool Apple because at the very least we've got iMacs that don't offer 80% laptop parts with a nice screen. I'd say we are at 40% laptop parts now.

ignorance, really? I was expecting that a lot sooner, because you people think, that everyone that disagrees with your life style is an ignorant bigot.

a different ethnicity, What makes you think I have a problem with that? Why are you trying to bring up the race card? Were not talking about lesbians or criminals either.

It might be possible to fool me when it comes to a transvestite, but it is hard to hide big hands, an adams apple, and wide shoulders, among other things.

I will teach her the morals that I believe in, and she will not be hurt at all. Believe it or not, there are a lot of woman, with conservative values, living happy, productive lives.

    Yes. Ignorance.

A trans woman goes into the bathroom, does her business, washes her hands and leaves...just like every other woman in a restroom. How exactly does that pose a threat to your daughter?

You may not think you are hurting her with "your morals", but growing up to hate and fear those that are different will only hurt her when she doesn't have you to guard the bathroom for her anymore. I believe that there are women with "conservative" values living happy, productive lives. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

Mac OS X is so stable that I am perfectly comfortable working for an hour in between saving my open files. If I was likely to run into websites that purposely exploited a flaw to crash my Mac, I'd have to change my habits and live more defensively.

    Excellent point.

If you use a notebook or a desktop with a UPS, it can be extremely easy to forget about the fact that reboots may happen at any time, even without fautly software getting in the way. (Lately in Nova Scotia, the culprit has been "salty fog" invading our power substations...) Obviously this is a bug that can cause loss of work (and thus loss of money). And obviously the ultimate solution must be a more graceful failure response by the OS.

But a good stopgap measure to protect from the only potential damage which can so far be demonstrated to potentially come from this vulnerability, would be to enable the autosave feature of your software. That measure requires a one-time investment of effort on your part, and subsequently shouldn't have any effect on your work habits. I have never used any reputable productivity software which didn't have an autosave feature.
